Balmain Hospital Upgrade

Balmain Hospital Upgrade

Sydney Local Health District is upgrading Balmain Hospital.

The upgrades will improve the care provided to aged and rehabilitation patients at Balmain Hospital. The works will create 14 single rooms including six additional beds and a ceiling hoist for bariatric patients. The design will align with best practice for treating patients with dementia or delirium.

The works have been funded by the State Government and commenced in October 2016.

The General Practice Casualty will continue to operate as usual, treating minor illnesses and injuries from 8am to 10pm, seven days per week.

Construction update as of 4 April 2017

To date the following works have been completed on site:

  • Suspended deck to level 5
  • Concrete slab, columns and walls on levels 1-4
  • Removal of part of existing brickwork on levels 1-4 to fix existing building to new structure

Following the completion of building works, internal fit out will take place. The project is forecast for completion in mid 2017.

The works will require the relocation of some beds in different wards of the hospital.

The progress of this project will be updated on this site.
