Veterans Services - Veterans' Day Centre

The Veterans’ Day Centre at Concord Repatriation General Hospital offers a Therapeutic Program supporting the emotional wellbeing and physical needs of Veterans and War Widows. Clients are encouraged to maximise their potential to function in all areas of daily living through group and individual therapeutic activities.  At the Centre there are opportunities for Socialization, as well as skill development like computer skills, leisure activities such as Snooker, Carpet Bowls, Bingo, Trivia and Mental Stimulation, bus outings, arts and crafts and visiting speakers.   The Centre is staffed by doctors, nurses, a psychologist, a social worker, a recreational therapies officer and an occupational therapist.

“I see it as a gift to people who are left alone wondering what to do with the rest of their lives, it especially gives you independence from your children and makes you feel worthwhile.   It is absolutely marvellous for war widows left alone with no way to turn – they have so much in a practical and material way, that this it is an outlet for their minds and intellect, as well as peer support and socialisation.  The activities are provided willingly by lovely staff, make you feel like you are part of life again.  I don’t know what I would do without the Centre. “

War Widow Florence White
(Florence was also the Secretary for the Albury Professional Business Womens Association)
