Donating to support research

The Haematology Clinical Research Unit at Concord Cancer Centre, Concord Hospital is financially independent and not for profit. With little public funding, the team relies heavily on grants, donations and local fundraising to focus research to support patients.

Community Fundraising

Every donation makes a difference. Every $80,000 raised funds one clinical research nurse for 12 months. Every additional nurse means more opportunities for blood cancer patients to participate in world-leading clinical trials and access innovative medicines long before they are publicly available.

How you can help

Here's how you can support research into blood cancers:

  • make a tax-deductible donation
  • attending events organised by The Bloody Great Committee, like the annual International Women's Day Breakfasts in March each year, and A Bloody Great Night Out! dinner dance held every two years.
  • request donations in lieu of gifts at celebrations like birthdays or anniversaries
  • request donations at funerals
  • make a bequest in your Will

A Bloody Great Cause

Fundraising to support Concord Cancer Centre haematology research is managed by the Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause Limited.

The Foundation was established in 2019, with endorsement and support from Sydney Local Health District, to raise funds for world-leading blood cancer trials. It aligns to the objectives of The Bloody Great Committee volunteering and fundraising group, which has been fundraising for the District's world-leading blood cancer clinical trials since 2013. To date, the Foundation, has donated around $700,000 to support Concord Hospital's Haematology Department's life-saving work - giving more blood cancer patients a greater hope for a cure. This follows previous community fundraising efforts in support of our world-leading haematology clinical research trials, with around $100,000 raised prior to the 2013 establishment of The Bloody Great Committee.
