Information for our patients

If you've been referred to Concord Haematology for the treatment of your blood disorder or blood cancer, we want to assure you that you will receive world-class care, locally.

We encourage you to read the Information for Our Patients booklet, which provides information on all the services we provide and the key things that you need to know.

Haematology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the blood.

This may include:

  • anaemias (reduced haemoglobin - the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen)
  • other reductions in blood cells, including white cells (anti-infection cells) and platelets (cells that initiate clotting)
  • cancers of the blood cell system, including Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma
  • blood clotting disorders

We provide world-leading care through:

Laboratory Research

Concord Haematology operates under Concord Cancer Centre, although only about half of our patients have a blood cancer. There are no out of pocket costs for Medicare eligible patients.

For patients diagnosed with a blood cancer, there is now more hope than ever before. In this new era of personalised medicine, our patients with Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma are living longer and better lives. Modern, targeted therapies are increasing their chances of cure.

Our doctors and nurses will partner with you to provide you with the best treatment possible, with a focus on quality across all aspects of your care. If you have any questions during your appointments or treatment, please feel free to ask a member of our staff.

Appointments with our team of specialist Haematologists are available 4 days a week in our Clinics at Concord Hospital, Ground Floor East.

Within 24 hours of receiving a referral from a General Practitioner, we assess each patient's condition and provide appointments, in order of medical need.

Your doctor may have referred you to a specific Haematologist or provided you with a general referral. If you were provided with a general referral, you will be seen by the first available Haematologist.

While we always do our best to see you at the appointed time, on occasion an emergency with another patient may need to take priority. In this situation, we ask for your patience and assure you that we will see you as close to your appointment time as possible. If you are unable to wait, please let the Clinic Receptionist know and a new appointment can be scheduled.
