Health Informatics helps clinicians realise the benefits of electronic medical record systems and highlights issues found during the transition from paper to electronic documentation. The role of the Chief Nursing Information Officer and the Nurse Manager, Clinical Informatics is to identify gaps where existing policies or workflows do not align neatly with electronic processes and patient care or compliance with policy can be compromised. Acting as interpreters with one eye on the nursing/midwifery practical world and one eye on the future of technical enhancements in healthcare, the clinical informatics team advocate for evidence based improvements to patient care and the safeguarding of nursing and midwifery practice.
Health informatics is the study of information technology and how it can be applied to the healthcare field. It includes the study and practice of a data-based approach to healthcare delivery where information must be structured in a certain way to be effectively retrieved and used in a report or evaluation. What does that really mean?? There are many benefits of an electronic medical record.
