Coronial Neuropathology

We provide coronial autopsy and neuropathology expertise to all three NSW Forensic Medicine hubs (Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong) and ACT Forensic Medicine Centre.

 

Non-Coronial Neuropathology

We provide non-coronial autopsy neuropathology expertise for complex neurological disease and offer diagnostic services for neurological autopsy material across NSW. Please contact us for further details.

Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease (CJD) Diagnosis

The RPA Neuropathology Department is the NSW state referral laboratory for all suspected clinical cases of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE’s) that included Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI), Gerstmann–Sträussler–Scheinker (GSS) and variant CJD.

 

We work closely with NSW Forensic Medicine Sydney, the NSW Ministry of Health and the Australian National CJD registry at the University of Melbourne.

 

Please note the turnaround time for diagnosis of suspected CJD cases is around 4-6 months.
