Letter Scanning Project

In 2012 the Museum at RPA began an ambitious programme of scanning Series 25 Letter Books - outwards correspondence, 1873-1915. There are 21 books in total, each has about 500 pages.

The 'letters' are imprints of letters written by Sir Alfred Roberts, RPA's first Honorary Secretary. They document hospital planning and day-to-day business.

The scanning project is being funded through very generous donations of the RPA Graduate Nurses' Association and its members. The books are too fragile to handle and in very delicate condition. We've had to use the specialist scanning skills of a local company who also works with the Mitchell Library, State Archives, University of Sydney and many, many other top collecting institutions. Without this scanning project the information in the books would be locked away from researchers.

For 2014, the Museum has been given enough money to have 2 books scanned: four down, seventeen to go!
