Rapid Applied Research Translation

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) provides a long-term sustainable source of funding for endeavours that aim to improve health outcomes, quality of life and health system sustainability across Australia.

In 2017 the MRFF provided initial funds to Sydney Health Partners, to be used for grants under the Rapid Applied Research Translation (RART) scheme. In July 2018 the Federal Health Minister announced a further MRFF commitment to Sydney Health Partners of $6.1 million, for disbursement in the period 2019-2021.

It is a requirement of the RART scheme that money is granted to research projects which have the ability to translate into clinical practice and show strong prospects of delivering tangible benefits to patient care within a 12-to-18 month period.

Fourteen RART projects have been completed to date, a further eleven projects commenced in 2019, and several more projects are planned to commence in the second half of the year.
