Food & Nutrition

As you grow older, good nutrition becomes increasingly important. Not eating well is one of the major reasons why older people become sick, frail and lose their independence. If you are unsure as to how well you are eating, ask yourself the following questions.

  • Have I lost weight especially without trying?
  • Am I underweight?
  • Have I lost my appetite?
  • Has my food or fluid intake reduced?
  • Do I have a sore mouth or loose fitting dentures?
  • Do I have difficulty shopping, preparing meals or feeding myself?

If you answered “YES” to any of the above questions then you may not be eating well enough to stay healthy. Nutrition Australia has an excellent cookbook for older people called Adding Life to Your Years
