Toilets for the disabled are available on all floors of the hospital and also in the Outpatients Clinic. These are identified with Disabled signage.
There are a number of parking spaces for people with a disability on the hospital grounds both in the underground car park which has a ramp close to the lifts and in the area outside the front foyer. If parking in the underground car park, charges do apply.
Lifts are available to transport you to all levels of the hospital from the car park.
Auslan (sign interpreters) are available on request and qualified community language interpreters are also available for a range of language groups.

It is important that carers of people with a disability be actively involved in discussions with health professionals particularly in the early stages of the treatment process. Before hospital staff can talk with you about the person for whom you care, they must have permission from them. If the person for whom you care is unable to give permission, ask staff about your options. If English is not your first language you can ask the staff to arrange a Healthcare Interpreter.
We have a flexible approach for the overnight accommodation of carers. This is decided on an individual needs basis. The social worker on the ward can provide help and is often the key contact person for families. They provide support counselling and information about services. A range of other health professionals may also be involved in the caring and discharge process including occupational therapists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists, dieticians and nursing staff.
Should you have any concerns or questions, please ask the Nursing Unit Manager on the ward who will be able to refer you to the appropriate person for assistance.
Disability Support Person in hospital
If you are coming to hospital and have a disability or require special needs, please ask to speak to the Complex Care Coordinator or in their absence, the Patient Flow Manager. The switchboard can page these staff to speak to you on the phone prior to your coming to the hospital for your operation or procedure.
Please tell staff if you would like your Guide Dog to be with you when in hospital so this can be arranged
EnableNSW (previously PADP)
EnableNSW is a state wide government service providing equipment (self-care, mobility aids etc.), home oxygen, continence products, Enteral Nutrition and respiratory consumables to eligible residents. A health professional must be involved to assess and prescribe equipment.
An Application Form must be completed by the consumer, as well as an Equipment Request Form by the prescriber. Enquiries (including repairs and maintenance) can be made to the EnableNSW Service Centre on 1800 362 253 or email@example.com.
