Midwifery Discharge Support Program

This Midwifery Discharge Support Program is available to help you get home to your loved ones as soon as possible - 6 to 48 hours after the baby is born if eligible and a little longer if born by caesarean.

The service provides home visits by midwives who provide information, education and support in adapting to early parenting including breast feeding.

This service is available Monday to Sunday and visits will be at intervals decided according to the woman and baby's needs – usually more frequently at first. Generally this will last around one week after birth but contact may be extended in certain cases.

You will also be referred to your local Child and Family Health service for ongoing follow-up and checks. If you have given birth with us the hospital also conducts a post-birth check-up, discussing any contraception or cervical screening needs.
