Scheduled Maintenance of the LMS - Saturday 25 March

Medical Officer Learning Pathway for mandatory training is now Live

From 10 October 2017, Medical Officers will be red-flag targeted for the Medical Officer Mandatory Training Learning Pathway on their My Current Learning page which includes the following elements:

  • Overarching Challenge Test
  • Work, Health and Safety for Medical Officer (combined module - Introduction to Work, Health and Safety and Hazardous Manual Tasks)
  • Infection Prevention Strategies for Medical Officers (Infection Prevention and Control – Practices, Sharps Injuries for Clinical Staff, Aseptic Technique and Waste Management)
  • Safety and Quality for Medical Officers (combined module - Introduction to Safety and Quality and Safety and Quality - Advanced)
  • Violence Prevention and management for Medical Officers (combined module - Violence Prevention and Management Awareness and VPM Legal and Ethical Issues)
  • Care Coordination for Medical Officers

The modules have been developed in discussion with NSW Health Medical Officers to meet their specific training needs.

A 6 month timeframe to achieve the approved 80% compliance rate has been agreed with NSW Health Directors of Medical Services

Targeting is State-wide by ANZSCO Code with a once only Frequency.

Medical Officer Learning Pathway

A process flow of the Medical Officer Mandatory Training Learning pathway is attached which shows the learning pathway logic.

  1. Users are directed to an overarching challenge test (15 questions), which, if successfully completed, will autocomplete for all 5 modules.
  2. If the user is unsuccessful in completing the overarching challenge test, users will be directed to complete a challenge test for each module (5 questions).
  3. For each module, if the user is successful in completing the pre-module challenge test, they will autocomplete the module or, if unsuccessful, they will be required to complete the entire module.

The overarching challenge test appears as an optional element of the learning pathway i.e. this element has not been red-flagged. However, Medical Officers are advised to complete this element first and then progress to the modules, which each commence with a pre-module challenge test. Medical Officer will get one attempt at the overarching challenge test and one attempt at the individual module challenge test to achieve the 100% pass criteria. Should an individual be unsuccessful in completing the overarching challenge test, this will remain on their My Current Learning page on the LMS until this is periodically removed. As this is not red-flagged, there will be no impact to compliance levels.

Data Migration of Records

Medical Officers that have completed all the previous modules that align with the revised training module will not be required to do the revised module. Instead they will be marked as auto-complete via a data migration process.

If a medical officer has not completed ALL of the previous modules that align with the revised training module, they will be targeted to complete the revised module.

Over 5000 records have already been migrated for auto-completion. A final migration report will be run on Friday 6 October 2017 to capture any outstanding completions.

The previous modules will be de-targeted from Medical Officers on 4 October 2017.

Implementation Support Documents

A step by step instruction guide (attached) has been prepared for Medical Officers to assist with implementation.

In addition, a Frequently Asked Questions sheet is attached to assist with questions that Medical Officers may raise.

Please note the changes to Medical Officer mandatory training do not apply to Dentists or Dental Specialists.

Clinical Coding Graduation

On Thursday 6 November 2014 the graduation ceremony for the Clinical Coding Development Program was held in the CEWD Rozelle Auditorium. This program, a statewide initiative run by SLHD as a delivery site of the NSW Health RTO, aims to enhance the clinical coding workforce of NSW which is critical for Activity Based Funding.
There was a large number of participants in the program who were either existing clinical coding employees or new trainees employed within NSW Health. At the conclusion of the program 122 successful candidates completed at least one clinical coding Unit of Competency and 92 of them were awarded a Nationally Recognised Qualification:

  • 31 trainees graduated with a Certificate III in Health Administration including clinical coding at the introductory level
  • 61 participants graduated with a Certificate IV in Health Administration including the intermediate clinical coding competency
  • 30 participants were in addition awarded an advanced clinical coding unit of competency: HLTCC402B Complete highly complex clinical coding.

A new model of the Certificate III course will continue to be delivered by the CEWD Clinical Coding Training Team. This now includes work placements so that participants can gain valuable practical experience.

Computer Literacy, Mandatory Training and Group Completion of Online Learning

There are a number of mandatory online courses that employees of SLHD are required to complete; these courses are accessible through the Statewide LMS via the CEWD webpage. All staff need to be up to date with their mandatory training by March 2015.

We recognise that computer literacy can be a barrier to completion of online education and that for certain groups of staff completion of online education in a group environment is a reasonable alternative.  For example a supervisor may take a small group of staff members through an online module as a group sitting around the same computer. It is also feasible for supervisors to book a training room on site to take larger groups of staff through the same online learning. In this instance a data projector could be used so that larger numbers staff could see the same online learning and discuss the content as a group.

To capture the completion of all staff who have participated in group session training of online modules we developed an attendance form for use in these situations.

The completed form should be sent to CEWD via cewd.slhd@sswahs.nsw.gov.au so that we can update individual employee training records to reflect completion.

The form can be downloaded from the CEWD website (internal users only), please select the 'resources tab' at the top of the webpage and then select 'forms'.

To find out what mandatory training you need to complete just log on to the LMS and look at your training dashboard.

If you need more information please contact a member of our administrative team on 8755 3500

Important Update - Mandatory Training Education Matrix

The Health Education and Training Institute has recently completed a Statewide project to develop a NSW Health Mandatory Training Education Matrix. This matrix identifies mandatory training requirements for all staff and targeted mandatory training requirements for specific staff groups.

These requirements have been embedded into the new Statewide LMS so that when staff members log in their education dashboard tells them what mandatory training is outstanding. When managers log in they are able to see their own requirements as well as the compliance of their staff.

All staff must be fully compliant with their mandatory training by March 2015.

If you would like more information about the Mandatory Training Education Matrix please review the attached documents:

  1. Mandatory Training Fact Sheet for Staff
  2. Mandatory Training Fact Sheet for Managers

The matrix itself can be found on our website – select the courses tab and then mandatory training.
