The Sexual Assault Service responds to the needs of adults and young people aged 14 years and over who have been sexually assaulted.
We are staffed by specialist counsellors and doctors who work with people who have been sexually assaulted. We provide a sensitive, supportive and timely service:
- 24 hour, 7 day a week crisis counselling and medical & forensic examination and treatment at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for recent sexual assault or attempted sexual assault
- Ongoing counselling for people who have been sexually assaulted, their family members and friends. The purpose of counselling is to support clients to explore their feelings and the impact of the sexual assault on their lives
- Medical services include emergency contraception and preventative treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- Ongoing counselling for sexual assault survivors
- Court preparation and support
- Support groups
- Community education
- Health worker education, training & seminars
The service promotes a non violent society, where sexual violence is not tolerated.
