Services provided

The Women's Health Service works to improve the health and wellbeing of women living and working in the inner-west of Sydney, through partnership work and workforce education. Our focus is on women who are experiencing the poorest health in our communities. According to local evidence, this includes: Aboriginal women; women who are socio-economically disadvantaged; and women from some culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, particularly women who are refugees and/or newly arrived to Australia.

We also have a strong focus on Domestic and Family Violence prevention for all women, in particular those who access Sydney Local Health District services.

We do not provide a direct service to women. We provide women's health focussed community development, health promotion programs, education and training and policy advice.

Programs are delivered across the inner-west in partnership with local communities. The Women's Health Service seeks to complement a wide range of services available to women through government and non-government organisations, including the Inner West Sydney Medicare Local.

What do we mean by women's health?
Women's health issues can be defined as the social conditions, illnesses and disorders unique to, more prevalent among, or more serious in women or for which there are different risk factors, interventions or strategies for women than for men. Priority health issues include: impact of intimate partner violence on health; sexual and reproductive health; prevention of chronic disease through control of risk factors; and, ageing well.
