Cancer Support

The Department of Urology at Concord Hospital provides a wide range of in-patient and out-patient services. Urologists are surgical specialists who provide assessment and treatment of diseases involving the urinary system. These include the management of benign prostatic hypertrophy, impotence, urinary incontinence and stone disease. The Unit is also involved in management of all urological malignancies, including prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancer. Aligned with these services is an ongoing commitment to provide a high quality consulting service for other departments within the hospital for the management of urological problems. There is a further commitment of the Department to urological research and teaching, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The following services are provided by the department:

Concord Prostate Cancer Support Group - A Self Help Group for men and their partners

The group provides an opportunity for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, their partners and families, to obtain information and support from health professionals and more importantly, other men diagnosed with prostate cancer. Meetings are facilitated by health professionals. Informal open facilitated discussions give men and their partners an opportunity to share their experiences of coping with diagnosis, treatment, side-effects and getting on with life after treatment. Presentations are by professionals on topics related to prostate cancer; its treatment and management of side-effects; including medical, diet, physiotherapy and psychosocial information.
