Concord Haematology - world-class care, locally
The Concord Cancer Centre Haematology Department provides world-class treatment and care for patients with blood cancers like leukaemia and myeloma, and blood disorders such as thrombosis, anaemia and blood clotting issues.
There are no out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-eligible patients. As part of a commitment to providing timely care - all referrals received from General Practitioners are assessed within 24 hours. Patients are then provided with appointments, in order of medical need.
The department conducts world-leading blood cancer clinical trials, giving blood cancer patients access to innovative medicines, long before they are publicly available. This provides patients with a greater hope for a cure and a better quality of life. Find out more about our Medical Research.
Multidisciplinary approach to care
Patients benefit greatly from the care offered by our multidisciplinary team, which includes allied health staff, anatomical pathologists, cancer care nurse coordinators, clinical and laboratory haematologists, clinical research staff, radiation oncologist, radiologists and transplant nurse practitioners.

The haematology multidisciplinary team visit a patient to discuss their care
Each week, patients' care is discussed, documented and reviewed by peers in a team meeting. Copies of the documents are sent to the referring General Practitioner, and become part of the patient's electronic medical record. The team also undertake inpatient Ward rounds together every week. It may seem daunting to patients, to have a dozen clinicians gathering by their bedside to continue their discussion of their care, however it greatly assists our team to deliver personalised care to each patient.
The multidisciplinary team model has been extremely successful in delivering quality peer review for our patients and shared patient care. It sets Concord Haematology apart as a leading provider of comprehensive blood cancer care in Australia.
