Education and Support

In addition to treating blood cancer patients and leading the way in clinical research, Concord Haematology also has a strong focus on providing education for our patients and their families.

We are part of the University of Sydney's Academic Staff and provide education for students, nurses and doctors at all levels. An essential component of our success as a world-leading academic hospital, is the integration of our medical and nursing students as part of the treating team. For this reason, students are likely to approach our patients to talk about their condition and examine them - this is an important part of their training.

We regularly provide educational seminars, lectures and forums, presented by specialists and experts in their respective fields for the benefit of our patients, their families and other medical staff. We have hosted successful Patient Education Forums for Lymphoma, Myeloma and Waldenström's Macroglobulinaemia, with presentations from world leaders in these blood cancers on-site at the Concord Medical Education Centre.

Our aim is to provide ongoing educational opportunities throughout the year and to engage with relevant bodies that support our patients and our work.

In 2013, we hosted Patient Education Forums for Lymphoma, Myeloma and Waldenström's Macroglobulinaemia, with presentations from Prof. Meletios Dimopoulos, Dean of the Medical School, University of Athens, who is a world leader in these blood cancers.

In 2016, we hosted a session about treatments for Lymphoma in Italian with world leader in blood cancer care and research, Prof. Massimo Federico from The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy, along with other leading Italian-Australian haematologists.
