Social workers assess and provide social work interventions to veterans, their partners and families or carers. Most appointments are face-to-face but group work and telehealth appointments may also be available. A comprehensive psychosocial assessment will be conducted for all veterans referred to social work.
Social Workers work with clients to maximise their wellbeing and the wellbeing of their families. Social Work interventions can include comprehensive and culturally appropriate assessments, crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy, information and referral to community support services and resources.
Social Workers aim to promote social justice and healthy relationships by following the patient and family centred care model. Family members are invited to attend sessions with veterans, if the veteran wishes. Social Workers take a holistic approach to treatment and encourage veterans to practice self-reliance and independence.
