VISION (ORTHOPTICS)

About

Vision (orthoptics) services offer assessment to identify, diagnose and manage vision disorders.

This service also supports the StEPS program.

What age groups do you see?

Children from birth – 12 years of age.

How can I access your service?

Telephone the Child Health Information Link (CHIL) on 9562 5400 (select option 2).

Where can I access your service?

Our services are mostly provided in Community Health Centres and Early Childhood Health Centres in Sydney Local Health District.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring your child’s Blue Book (Personal Health Record) .

What can I expect for my appointment?

When you arrive to the Community Health Centre you will be greeted by the receptionist. This person will let your child’s orthoptist know that you have arrived.

During your appointment, your child’s orthoptist will have a chat with you about your child’s family history, vision and general eye health. Then they will do an assessment to check your child’s vision.

Who will I meet at my appointment?

You will meet your child’s orthoptist who has university qualifications in orthoptics. This is the person that will check your child’s vision.
