Did you know the Child and Family Health Link (CHIL) is your gateway to dozens of Child and Family Health Services in the Sydney Local Health District? Manager, Rachel Walker explains how with one number you can access anything from advice about feeding a newborn to making an appointment to check your child’s hearing or vision.
“The main objective of CHIL is to have one place that is the point of reliable and trusted information for the Sydney Local Health District community”, says Ms Walker.
The service is available to families who live in the Sydney Local Health District or have a child attending pre-school or school in the area.
“It’s the service centre people can call if they have concerns or questions regarding their child’s health and development and at CHIL we’re able to connect families to the services or support they need.”
Each week in the CHIL office, our clinicians respond to between 800 and 1000 calls.
“We have an amazing group of professionals, with an exceptional level of experience and clinical knowledge, which ensures they provide information that’s helpful and understandable,” Ms Walker explains.
Depending on the nature of the call, parents might arrange for follow up appointments or in some cases, questions can be resolved over the phone with the advice of our experts.
If you have a concern about your child but don’t know whether to call, Ms Walker says don’t hesitate.
“It’s much better to ask questions and get support early because we know if there is an issue, the outcomes are better for children when we give families the support they need.”
We know raising a family can be expensive, so it’s good to know all services available through CHIL are free.
You can call CHIL Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 4pm on 9562 4500
