The 'Food Texture Guide' uses pictures to show parents the right textures for foods high in iron, when first given to babies.
Introducing solid foods is recommended at around six months of age by The National Health and Medical Research Council Infant Feeding Guidelines (2012) and World Health Organisation Exclusive Breastfeeding Statement (2011).
Foods can be introduced in any order, as long as foods containing iron are included. Some babies may skip the mashed stage and go straight onto lumpy foods. Others may need the mashed texture. Every child is different.
If you are having trouble introducing solids to your baby, please call the Child Health Information Link (CHIL) on 9562 5400.
