Mardi Gras celebrations

This year marked the 40 year anniversary of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. The Healthy Families Healthy Children team along with their Sydney Local Health District colleagues and thousands of others celebrated the start to Mardi Gras season in rainbow style!

There was a lot of fun to be had for our families at Mardi Gras Fair Day this year. Our team was there handing out rainbow Frisbees, fresh fruit and bags filled with activities and information on child health.

As the sun continued to rise, the Sydney Local Health District stall became a place for families to be sun safe and ‘slip, slop, slap’ with the sunscreen provided.

Our dental hygienists showed children and parents how they can keep little mouths healthy while the health promotion team shocked the crowds with their food portion plates and measuring cups, demonstrating a standard serving size.

It was great to see so many families being healthy and thriving in their community. We enjoyed celebrating with you all. Happy Mardi Gras!

“Our two kids feel very strongly about being part of the Rainbow Kids family, so off to Fair Day we went. Of course we went along to the hip and happening Sydney Local Health District stall and the kids loved the array of fresh fruit and the Frisbees. Then we headed off to visit Doggywood. Fair Day is a great opportunity to showcase the local health district and let others know that they are an integral part of our community” - Deb, local mum of two
