Our District provides health services to more than 700,000 people living and working in Sydney's inner west as well as patients from across NSW and Australia. On an average day, we treat about 400 patients in our emergency departments, deliver more than 18 babies and have more than 100 nurses on the road in the community.

  What support does Sydney offer GradStart participants?V

GradStart Orientation Manual

Our experienced team will support you to build on the foundations of your university studies to a nursing or midwifery career filled with possibilities.

Our supported and facilitated program will give you opportunities to work across a range of clinical specialties to develop and consolidate your skills, knowledge and practice.

Our programs are designed to:

  • Provide a structured and coordinated approach to clinical practice development
  • Promote workplace learning in a conducive climate
  • Enhance collaboration and communication

GradStart Programs are conducted over a 12 month period and consist of:

  • Structured Corporate and workplace orientation
  • Lifelong learning skills development
  • Supernumerary Days in the clinical unit
  • Paid educational support days to support learning in the clinical environment
  • Two six month supportive clinical rotations
  • Self-assessment of learning needs
  • Clinical skills and professional development record maintenance
  • Clinical competency assessments
  • Regular In-Service Program
  • Clinical Competency Assessment
  • Ongoing Coaching / De-Briefing
