Principal Referral Hospitals
- Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) including the Institute for Rheumatology and Orthopaedics (IRO) is a Group A1 Principal Referral Hospital and Major Trauma Centre with tertiary affiliations with the University of Sydney. It provides referral and district acute services to a catchment that includes the inner west LGAs, and, for referral services other LHDS across NSW, as well as interstate and overseas patients.
- Concord Repatriation General Hospital (CRGH) is a Group A1 Principal Referral Hospital with tertiary affiliations with the University of Sydney. It provides a range of tertiary and District level services to its local community and veterans across NSW who choose to continue receiving their care at the hospital. It also provides one of the two state-wide adult burns services.
Major Hospitals
- Canterbury Hospital (CH) is a Group B1 Major Metropolitan Hospital that provides District level services to its local community.
Sub-Acute Hospitals
- Balmain Hospital (BH) is a Group F4 Sub Acute Hospital that provides a general practice casualty service. It provides predominantly aged care and rehabilitation services, particularly for RPAH and CRGH patients who no longer require acute care.
Non Acute Hospitals
- Sydney Dental Hospital (SDH) is one of the State's two specialist dental facilities and is a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. It offers a range of treatments to both adults and children for the District, and for all residents of NSW.
Mental Health Facilities
- Concord Centre for Mental Health (CCMH) provides the largest concentration of mental health beds for the District and includes tertiary referral services.
- Thomas Walker Hospital (TWH) "Rivendell" provides adolescent mental health services for the State and is located adjacent to the CCMH.
Community Health Facilities
SLHD provides a range of prevention, early intervention assessment, acute/post-acute treatment, health maintenance and continuing care services within the community through community based facilities and/or outreach services. These are summarised below.

For the following services: Cardiology; Dermatology; Emergency; Endocrinology; Family and Child Health; Gastroenterology; General Medicine; General Surgery; Geriatrics; Hematology - Clinical; Immunology; Infectious Diseases; Neurology; Oncology - Medical; Rehabilitation; Renal Medicine; Respiratory Medicine; Rheumatology; and Sexual Health Services, Balmain Hospital is networked with RPAH for the provision of level 6 clinical support services (Diagnostic Imaging; Anaesthetics; Intensive Care Unit; Coronary Care Unit; Operating Theatres; Pathology; Pharmacy; and Nuclear Medicine.
CCMH: Concord Centre for Mental Health To support Inpatient Adult Mental Health, Anaesthetics, Inpatient Child/Adolescent Mental, Drug and Alcohol, Family and Child Health, Older Adult Mental Health and Sexual Health Services, networking arrangements are in place with CRGH to provide the following higher level clinical support services: Pathology; Operating Theatres; Coronary Care Unit; Intensive Care Unit; Anaesthetics; Diagnostic Imaging; Pharmacy; and Nuclear Medicine.
Sydney Dental Hospital: provides Level 6 oral health services with specialist outreach provided to SLHD oral health centres. SDH is networked to RPAH for higher level pathology and pharmacy support and to RPAH inpatient services.
Pathology. All smaller labs within the District are linked with a larger tertiary Pathology unit. For example, Balmain is the level 6 laboratory at RPAH.
Balmain Emergency. Emergency Medicine is provided at role level 2 however it is on ambulance by-pass with a General Practice Casualty
Concord Cardiology. Networked with RPAH for level 6 Nuclear Medicine services

TCH Rehabilitation. Networked with Balmain Hospital for higher levels of Rehabilitation services
Sexual Assault Services. Concord and Canterbury hospitals higher level sexual assault services are accessed via RPAH
RPAH Sexual Assault. A level 6 adult service is provided. Children's services are not provided
Aboriginal Health. A level 5 service is provided across SLHD
Community Health - General. A level 5 service is provided across SLHD. Some services within community health such as palliative care provide level 6 services.
Community Nursing. A level 5 service is provided across SLHD
Multicultural Health. A level 3 service is provided across SLHD
Oral Health Services. Apart from Oral Health Services provided at Sydney Dental Hospital (SDH), residents of SLHD are able to access oral health services located on hospital sites or in community health centres. The oral health role delineation levels that are indicated for each hospital facility reflects the level of service that is available in the local government area in which the hospital is located. Patients requiring inpatient care are treated within the acute hospitals with a range of specialist services provided on an outreach basis from SDH which provides a level 6 oral health service.
Sexual Health. Level 5 service is provided at RPAH and other hospitals provide level 1 services.
Women's Health. A level 4 service is provided across SLHD
