The Go4Fun program is a healthy lifestyle program for children aged 7-13 years who are above their healthy weight. The program is run after-school during the school term and is free for eligible families.
The program aims to help achieve weight maintenance, as well as educating children’s approach to physical activity and foods and includes:
During the 10 week after school program, Go4Fun families learn about nutritious foods, healthy portion size, how to interpret food nutrition labels and most importantly how to continue eating healthily for life. They are encouraged to challenge their eating habits and attitudes towards foods and are taught skills to support a sustained lifestyle change.
The children also increase their fitness and confidence during the fun sports and games played during the exercise component of the Go4Fun program. Many of the families that join our program have made valued friendships with their fellow Go4Fun participants.
Data collected about Go4Fun show Go4Fun has helped children who are above a healthy weight to reach a healthier weight, increase the time they spend being active, improve their fitness and raise their self-esteem. The program meets all Australian guidelines and National Health and Medical Research Council recommendations for the management of overweight and obesity in children.
Go4Fun is held in sports centres, schools and community centres in a number of council areas in Sydney Local Health District. Go to www.go4fun.com.au to find a program near you.
