How to access our program

These are the steps that you need to follow if you are concerned about your fertility and wish to access our program.

  1. Get a referral from your General Practitioner (GP)

  2. Telephone to arrange an appointment in the Fertility Clinic. The number for making or changing an appointment is (02) 95157101. When you ring this number you may be requested to leave your contact details and a call will be returned to you. Both partners will be required to attend this appointment

  3. Attend your Fertility Clinic appointment. Fertility Clinics are held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1.30pm – 4.30pm. The purpose of your clinic appointment is to investigate, review and plan the appropriate treatment for you. At your first appointment you will be asked questions about your reproductive health. You and your partner will be sent for investigations including blood tests, a sperm count and an ultrasound.  You will be required to return to clinic to get the results of these investigations. If IVF is the recommended treatment, you will book to attend a nursing interview. The time from your first appointment to your nursing interview can take many weeks.

  4. Attend your Nursing Interview.  The purpose of the nursing interview is to provide you and your partner with information about IVF. At this appointment the nurse will discuss with you:

    • Drugs
    • Risks
    • Side effects
    • Costs
    • Timetable of treatment
    • Consents
    • Outcomes

It is also an opportunity for us to answer your questions or concerns. Please allow 90 minutes for this appointment.

  5. Book in for a treatment cycle.
The Federal Government has announced changes to the funding by Medicare of IVF cycles.

In September 2009 changes were announced which will come into effect in January 2010. The changes introduce a cap to fees for IVF cycles which will be reimbursed through the Medicare Safety Net. However these changes will not affect RPA Fertility Unit patients as our fees fall well within the Medicare requirements.
