Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is an advanced mode of radiotherapy which allows for higher radiation doses to be focused to the tumour while minimising the dose to surrounding normal critical structures. IMRT allows for a more conformal dose to the tumour by modulating or controlling the intensity of the radiation beam in multiple small volumes.

Due to the complexity of IMRT planning, it does require slightly longer treatment times each day (up to 30 minutes), as well as additional planning and safety checks compared to conventional radiotherapy.

Here at RPAH, we offer IMRT to a range of treatment areas including head and neck, brain, prostate, anus and breast.
