Student Placement

RPAH is a teaching hospital. The Social Work Department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital has a Student Unit Educator, who coordinates hospital field placements for university students studying social work. Students are allocated a supervisor, who provides professional and clinical guidance to the student throughout their placement. Both third year and fourth year students are accepted from all universities offering a social work degree, however we are unable to accept welfare, TAFE or high school students.

Students wishing to complete a field placement at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital should have a keen interest in acute hospital social work, capacity to work in a challenging environment, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills.Students will participate in departmental activities such as team meetings and professional development, and can be provided opportunities to complete small research projects.
