Speech Pathology

The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) is an acute hospital located in the Sydney Local Health District - along with Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Balmain Hospital and Canterbury Hospital.

The Speech Pathology department at RPA is dedicated to providing high quality assessment, management and education to adults and their families, for swallowing and communication disorders.  These may include:

  • Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
  • Language or communication difficulties - including listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Speech difficulties - including slurred speech
  • Changes to voice - including vocal nodules
Our department provides a 7 day a week service to patients admitted to RPA.
 
We are committed to ongoing education, quality and research activities.

Specialist Services

The RPA Speech Pathology department also provides a variety of specialist services to the adult and infant population. 
 
These include:
  • Head and neck cancer - including radiation oncology
  • Critical care
  • Aged care
  • Rehabilitation
  • Stroke, neurology and neurosurgery
  • Voice 
  • Neonatal feeding

Specialist clinics are run in conjunction with medical teams for:

  • Swallowing / videofluoroscopy (VFSS) - with Radiology 
  • Voice & swallow clinic - with ENT

The RPA speech pathology department offers a number of different outpatient services for those who live, work or study  within our local government area.
