Reference Interval:
0 - 30 pmol/L. fasting (adult) 
Specimen Required: 5 mL EDTA - aprotinin blood, must be collected on ice and spun down within half of an hour in refrigerated centrifuge.
Collect after overnight fast. Patient must be resting for at least 10 minutes before blood is collected.
 
Central Sydney Container: Special tube obtain from Endocrinology Laboratory. Each tube contains 6 mg sodium EDTA + 2500 KIU Aprotinin for 5 mL of blood. 
Min. Specimen Amount 0.5 mL Plasma. 
Transport Requirement: Spin blood and send plasma frozen. 
Laboratory Storage: Frozen plasma 
General Notes: From Monday the 26th August 2019, the VIp assay has changed from Euradiagnostica to DIASource radioimmunoassay. The DIASource method has a negative bias and this is reflected in the change in Reference interval (fasting speciment). 
Test Frequency: Weekly.
