Board members tour hospital as upgrade to enhance patient experience nears completion

Some of Sydney Local Health District's newest Board members have paid a visit to Sydney Dental Hospital to learn a little more about its history, services and future.

Serving Board members Richard Acheson and Kerry-Anne Hartman joined their new colleagues, Chief Executive of the Aboriginal Medical Service Redfern LaVerne Bellear, Adjunct Professor Karen Crawshaw and business leader Ray Dib for a tour of the hospital with its General Manager, Dr Jason Cheng.

He was accompanied by the District's Executive Director Clinical Services Integration and Population Health, Lou-Anne Blunden and the District's Acting Director of Operations Kiel Harvey, as well as the hospital's Head of Specialist Services, Associate Professor Alex Holden and its Training and Education Clinical Manager, Dr Alicja Smiech.

"It is wonderful to be able to show members of the Board all that we're doing here at Sydney Dental Hospital," Dr Cheng said.

He highlighted some of the hospital's current initiatives, including its integrated care pathways in collaboration with other partner health services and hospitals, and its upcoming Oral Health Digital Solution roll-out, which will aim to digitally transfer clinical data and improve processes.

Dr Cheng also reflected on the hospital's contribution to the District's pandemic response, which saw 75 per cent of staff redeployed to a range of COVID-19 response activities including contact tracing, testing clinics, and vaccination centres.

The Board was also able to view progress with the hospital's foyer upgrade, which aims to enhance the experience of patients at the hospital for an appointment.

"It's been a challenging two years but we've now got a firm eye on the future," said Dr Cheng.

"We are very much looking forward to further developing our services and continuing to offer world-class care to the diverse and rapidly growing community we serve."
