The Big Idea 2018
The Big Idea is a Sydney Research event focusing on developing research innovation and commercialisation. The Big Idea is a key event in the Sydney Innovation and Research Symposium and this year it also forms a major component of STRIVE, the Research Impact and Commercialisation Series hosted by Sydney Research.
The Big Idea includes an innovation challenge which will support individuals to progress their idea to the next level within their organisation. It could be a device, a prosthesis, a marker, an app, a treatment, a piece of technology or a system – if it has the potential to be developed into a commercially viable product to transform healthcare or research – it could be the next Big Idea! This is an opportunity to gain exposure, support and mentoring through sponsors, industry and participating venture capitalists.
This year, expert speakers at the Big Idea will highlight the importance of innovation and research commercialisation with emphasis on identifying “what makes a good product”.
Sponsored by Sydney Local Health District and The University of Sydney, an expert panel will award up to $45,000 pre-seed funding for the winner(s) of the Big Idea to reach the next stage of commercialising their idea.
The Big Idea is being held as part of the 2018 Sydney Innovation and Research Symposium on Thursday 21 June at Australian Technology Park.
