About Us

The Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery Unit at Concord Hospital is part of Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney.

We provide a comprehensive range of services on an inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient basis. The Unit provides services for trauma and elective procedures. Services are enhanced by a close working relationship with other specialties such as the Burns Unit, Head and Neck Unit, Ear, Nose and Throat, Dermatology and Geriatrics.

The Unit provides services to the general community and at tertiary referral level with special expertise in reconstructive plastic surgery and hand surgery. The department is active in a range of clinical research activity closely integrated with clinical practice and teaching activities.

Patients can be referred to the Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Unit Outpatients Clinic on 9767 5333. A referral letter from your GP or Specialist is required to be seen at the Clinic.

Services Provided

  • Emergency treatment:
    • Severe lacerations and soft tissue trauma
    • Facial trauma and fracture treatment
    • Complex wound management
    • Hand injuries, including fractures, lacerations, tendon, nerve and artery injuries
  • Elective Surgery (by referral form your GP):
    • Skin cancer surgery
    • Breast reconstruction
    • Breast reduction (for severely symptomatic mammary hyperplasia)
    • Hand conditions, including:
      • Carpal tunnel syndrome
      • Dupuytrens disease
      • Trigger finger, de Quervains tenosynovitis, tendovaginitis
      • Ganglions
      • Hand lumps and tumours
    • Head and neck cancer reconstruction
    • Lymphoedema surgery
    • Scar revision
    • Facial paralysis and palsy (Dr Gazi Hussain)
    • Vascular malformations (Dr Peter Hayward)
