Institutional Biosafety - How to Apply
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) reviews proposals for research involving the use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) to ensure the research meets the requirements of the Gene Technology Regulations 2001. The IBC assists supervisors with obtaining proper authorisation for their research.
The Gene technology Regulations 2001 provide information about each class of GMO dealing. All work with GMOs (including those licenced by the OGTR) must be reviewed by the IBC before commencing. If you are considering submitting a proposal for work involving GMOs please contact the IBC Executive Officer (EO) in advance for advice about the application process and forms.
Guidelines on regulatory requirements under the Gene Technology Act 2000 for human clinical trials involving genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can be accessed here.
