Research Ethics and Governance Office

About Us

Welcome to the Research Ethics and Governance Office website for the Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) - Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) Zone

There are two offices serving the research community of the Sydney Local Health District, located at Concord and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals. Both offices are accredited and certified by the NHMRC and the NSW Ministry of Health to approve studies under the mutual acceptance scheme and provide ethical clearance for multi-centre studies.

The Sydney Local Health District is home to a vast number of researchers and deals with some of the most complex cases in NSW and Australia. Our researchers are amongst the top-ranked in the world and therefore research ethics and governance is paramount.

Staff at the ethics offices have a combined experience of over 30 years and provide expert advice for a wide range of activities; ethics, governance, accessing medical records, research integrity, training, ethics of clinical practice, etc

This site explains the process a researcher must follow to undertake research in the Sydney Local Health District - RPAH Zone.

All research involving humans should conform to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2025) and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018. The office also provides guidance and assistance to researchers on projects that may require ethics review.
