Kate was promoted from Clinical Midwifery Consultant to Manager for Clinical Governance and Practice Development at RPA Women and Babies and the Canterbury Hospitals in 2014. She has a Masters in Health Science-HIV for which she undertook a qualitative study examining the language that midwives use to discuss women with HIV-affected pregnancies. Kate was a midwife at the RPA Birth Centre for a number of years and authored a chapter about birth centre midwifery in Australia for Birth Centre Midwifery - a Social Model of Midwifery Care (Kirkham, 2003).

Shelley has a background in intensive care nursing, specialising for 12 years in neonatal nursing before taking up her current role as NICUS Audit Officer in RPA Newborn Care in 1997. NICUS is the acronym for the Neonatal Intensive Care Units data collection, which reports annually on high-risk newborns for the NSW Health Mothers and Babies Report. She also has a special interest in editing and was the founding editor of the peer-reviewed journal, Neonatal, Paediatric and Child Health Nursing, launched in 1998. Shelley was president of the Association of Neonatal Nurses of NSW for 2006 to 2008 and completed a Masters in Public Health by coursework in 2008.
