About Us

The Department of Colorectal Surgery at RPA provides specialist colorectal surgical services in Sydney Local Health District. The department also provides care to patients from outside the area, including metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states and territories.

The unit provides a 24 hour colorectal consultation service for inpatients, and participates in the provision of acute colorectal, general surgery and trauma care.

The Unit has expertise in the following areas of colorectal surgery:

  • Primary colorectal and anal cancers
  • Pelvic Exenteration for locally advanced primary rectal cancers and locally recurrent rectal cancers / other pelvic cancers
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Minimally invasive laparoscopic colorectal surgery
  • Pelvic Floor Disorders
  • Colonoscopy, including colonic stenting.
