The Department of Colorectal Surgery at RPA has a strong interest in colorectal surgical outcomes in respect to patient care, management and quality of life, and is actively involved in research in this area.

It has close ties with the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCE) and The University of Sydney with supervision of part and full time Masters and PhD students, as well as the Notaras three year colorectal academic scholarship (research, clinical RPA and overseas years).

The Colorectal Unit is actively engaged in fostering multidisciplinary models of care for our patients and has close ties with the gastroenterology department, and medical and radiation oncology services. A regular colorectal cancer MDT meeting is held, in addition to a Pelvic Exenteration MDT meeting, where patients with locally advanced primary rectal cancer or locally recurrent rectal cancers are discussed.
