Before Your Stay

Most parents don't anticipate their baby requiring a stay in Newborn Care/ neonatal nursery. Sometimes during pregnancy, your obstetric care team may identify that your baby may need to be born early or may be sick and require an admission to Newborn Care. You may be admitted to hospital during your pregnancy, on bed rest for pregnancy complications, or having twins or higher multiples that may make a premature birth more likely.

You may feel a range of emotions knowing that your baby may need to stay in hospital. Getting familiar with Newborn Care before the birth can help it feel more familiar when you visit your baby there.
