"My Story I graduated from University of Sydney with Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) degree in 2001. In 2000-2002- Casual tutoring of Aboriginal physiotherapy student s at the University of Sydney Employed in first year graduate position with NSW Health at Auburn Hospital with secondments to Westmead Hospital and Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney, Ryde I worked in NSW Health at Coffs Harbour Health Campus including the rehabilitation ward I Travelled to the UK/Europe/Middle East. Over the 2 years worked in the NHS (public health system) in the UK and worked at a variety of hospital and community health settings in rehabilitation. In 2006- current- I have been working in SLHD at Balmain Hospital and work in the rehabilitation inpatient unit as the Senior Physiotherapist."
The Allied Health Professions in SLHD include Art Therapy, Counselling, Nutrition and Dietetics, Diversional Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Orthoptics, Orthotics, Physiotherapy, Play Therapy, Podiatry, Diagnostic Radiographers, Psychology, Sexual Assault Workers, Social Work, Speech Pathology and Welfare Officers.
SLHD is committed to supporting Aboriginal peoples in Allied Health. One strategy in support of this commitment is participation in the Allied Health Aboriginal Cadetship Program. This state-wide program is coordinated in SLHD by our Centre for Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) in partnership with Aboriginal Workforce and Allied Health. The program provides employment opportunity to students undertaking tertiary qualifications in an allied health degree. As of October 2016, there are two Aboriginal Social Work cadets employed by SLHD; one based at Concord Hospital and the other based in Drug Health Services. There are limited cadetship places available.
