About Us
Concord Burns Unit was opened in 1975 as a specialist referral centre for adults in NSW with a burn injury. In 2004, we relocated to our current location on the top floor of Concord Repatriation General Hospital where we accommodate 10 acute burn beds, with potential to expand up to 16 beds.
With the opening of our Skin Lab in 2001, we have achieved new advances in skin substitute technology, including Cultured Epithelial Autografts (CEA) for all NSW burn units.
Our Burns Theatre opened in 2007 and is staffed by dedicated burns nurses with theatre training as well as theatre specific nurses
Our Burns Unit is part of the NSW Statewide Severe Burn Injury Service servicing the entire State of New South Wales for adults with burn injuries and other skin loss conditions. We accept tertiary referrals for any acute burn injury or any patient requiring burns reconstructive surgery. The other two NSW based Burn Units are located at Royal North Shore Hospital (adults) and Westmead Children's Hospital (children). All NSW Burn Units are affiliated with the University of Sydney and well regarded for their excellence in research and training.
