Traditionally, anaesthetic department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital has been contributing to management of chronic pain. In 1976, anaesthetist Dr John Ditton, along with neurosurgeons Dr J Segelov and Dr N Dorsch established the multidisciplinary management team, which gradually evolved to our current pain management centre.
Our pain management centre is now consisting of Pain Specialists, psychiatrists, addiction specialists, physiotherapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, pain nurses, and trainee medical staff. It is a tertiary referral centre providing service to Sydney Local Health District, as well as NSW remote areas.
We provide a wide range of pain management including pain education programs, psychotherapy, physiotherapy, medication optimization, and interventional treatment.
