RPA Fertility Unit

Thank you for visiting the RPA Fertility Unit Website

In line with the Sydney Local Health District Covid-19 planning response, in order to protect our patients, our staff and the wider hospital community the following temporary changes have been made:

The Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital has directed that the Fertility Unit will be closed for fertility treatments as of Wednesday 25th March 2020 until further notice.

All non-essential procedures are being postponed.  This includes the following:

  • tracking of cycles,
  • IUI treatment,
  •  IVF treatment,
  • frozen embryo transfers
  • egg or sperm donor treatment

Outpatient Fertility Clinics, which take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, will continue to take place using telehealth facilities. To make an outpatient clinic appointment call 9515 7101.

If you have a scheduled Nursing Interview booked this will take place via telehealth.  You will be notified of any changes to this by the Fertility Unit Nurses.

We will update any changes on this website

We appreciate the concern this may cause you and we wish to support you at this time.  Should you wish to speak to a member of staff at the Fertility Unit please call 9515 8824 between 9am and 5pm. You must not visit the Fertility Unit, it will be closed.  This is to reduce the number of people coming into the public hospital to minimize risk to you and others around you.

The Unit’s Fertility Counsellor, Sally Ann, will continue to be available to support you at this time via telephone or ZOOM.  The counselling support service is available Monday to Thursday 8.30am-5pm.  You may contact Sally Ann via telephone on 9515 8119 or email

It is important at this time that we look after each other and ourselves.  Please do not hesitate to access support should you require it.  Community based supports available 24/7 includes:

The Federal Government has announced changes to the funding by Medicare of IVF cycles.

In September 2009 changes were announced which will come into effect in January 2010. The changes introduce a cap to fees for IVF cycles which will be reimbursed through the Medicare Safety Net. However these changes will not affect RPA Fertility Unit patients as our fees fall well within the Medicare requirements.
