Charlie Smiling

Activities to help your baby learn:

  • You can start having conversations with your baby from birth
  • Talk to them about their body, the things you are doing and the world around them
  • Pause so they can have a turn in the conversation
  • Your baby will use gestures and body language to communicate at this age

At just over a week old, baby Charlie is already very interested in his world. Although he can only see short distances, he looks into his mum's eyes when she talks and listens intently to the sound of her voice. Notice how Charlie is already starting to communicate with his mum. Watch how he responds by smiling when she pauses to let him take his turn in the conversation.
