The Sydney University Dental Student Clinic is located in the Clinical Dentistry Department.

The clinic offers treatment by dental students which may include general dental care, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics and restorative treatment in a teaching environment.

What to expect at your appointment

When you arrive at the reception desk, you will be greeted by the receptionist. You will be asked to provide your Centrelink Concession Card and Medicare card, as well as your Sydney Dental Hospital appointment card.

Please note:

  • The Clinical Dentistry Department is a learning environment so please understand that appointments are lengthy (up to three hours long).
  • Treatment is supervised by clinical educators and specialists at all times.
  • Appointments may be scheduled far apart as dental students may be rostered to a number of different clinics and have University breaks.
  • Children are not permitted in treatment cubicles for safety reasons.

Who will I meet at my appointment?

You will meet our receptionist and dental staff. All treatment provided by dental students is supervised by clinical educators and specialists.

What type of treatment do you offer?

Prosthodontics involves the use of fixed and removable dental prosthetics to restore dental appearance and function of the teeth and jaw. This may include the replacement of natural teeth with dentures, crowns, bridges, fixed implants and facial prosthetics

Endodontics is often referred to as root canal treatment. It involves the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease or injury in the ‘pulp’ (nerves and soft tissue) of the tooth. If the pulp becomes infected, the tooth becomes painful and root canal treatment may be required.

Periodontics involves the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease.

Restorative Treatment aims to restore the condition of the patient’s teeth for functional and appearance purposes.
