The Diagnostic Imaging service takes different types of X-rays for patients.

X-rays may be taken inside the mouth to take images of individual teeth, and/or outside the mouth to take images of the whole mouth.

Different services at Sydney Dental Hospital send their patients to Diagnostic Imaging for an X-ray.

The department can also provide Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT).

How can I use this service?

If your dentist thinks you need an x-ray, they can refer you to this service. This could be any dentist at Sydney Dental Hospital and Sydney Local Health District Oral Health Services. Your dentist will provide you with a ‘request form’ that you must bring to your appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

To find out what you should bring to your appointment, click here. You must bring the request form to your appointment from your referring dentist.  If you do not bring the form your appointment may have to be rescheduled.

What to expect at your appointment

When you arrive at the reception desk, you will be greeted by the receptionist. You will be asked to provide your valid Medicare and Centrelink Concession Cards and request form.

The receptionist will ask you to sit down and wait for your name to be called by the staff member who will take your X-ray.

Jewellery and hair accessories (e.g. earrings, necklace, and hairclips) must be removed before the X-ray can be taken.

Who will I meet at my appointment?

You will meet our receptionist and dental staff. Your X-ray may be taken by a Dentist, a Senior Dental Assistant, or a Dental student under the supervision of a qualified Dentist.
