Privacy Obligations for Students attending SLHD FacilitiesStudents are reminded that they are not to remove any medical records or documents containing patient health information, including those saved in electronic formats, from Hospital grounds. Documents used during clinical shifts, such as patient lists or handover documents, must be disposed of in a secure manner on Hospital grounds. This includes shredding or disposing in confidential recycling bins. Taking documents home or disposing of public bins is against privacy policies and could be considered a breach of confidentiality. For further information on security responsibilities students can refer to section 9 of the NSW Privacy Manual for Health Information: http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/policies/manuals/Documents/privacy-section-9.pdf and the online privacy training that they have access to via My Health Learning. Students that are granted access to the SLHD eMR ARE NOT to access other patients' medical history or sensitive information whom they are not caring for and furthermore must at no time access medical records whilst not attending placement - i.e. after hours. Students that access medical records, which they are not approved to be viewed or view any medical records out of hours, is a serious breach of privacy and will be dealt with accordingly. |
