Diabetes Centre Team

The Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Diabetes Centre is staffed by a dedicated and highly trained multidisciplinary team. Researchers, doctors, specialised nursing staff and allied health professionals and administration staff collaborate to improve patient health outcomes now and for the future.

RPA Hospital Diabetes Centre's medical director is ultimately responsible for the care of the patients, but the concept of an integrated multidisciplinary team is highly promoted. Staff members are multi-skilled, enabling the crossing of professional health boundaries.

In addition to their clinical roles, RPA Hospital Diabetes Centre's staff members are committed to, and actively involved in, educational and clinical research.


Ted WuDr Ted Wu
Director of Diabetes Services

Dr Ted Wu is a senior specialist endocrinologist, Director of the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Diabetes Centre and Director of Physician Training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
He has a long-term interest clinical diabetes, and teaching and research into diabetes complications and novel treatments.
In 1998 he joined the RPA Diabetes Centre, formulating and delivering novel educational programs in clinical diabetes.
He has published numerous articles, abstracts and book chapters and has been an invited speaker to many international symposia.
He was instrumental in establishing RPA Hospital's Diabetes Centre as a National Association of Diabetes Centre's 'Centre of Excellence' and Australia's only International Diabetes Federation 'Centre of Education'.

Margeret McGillAssociate Professor Margaret McGill AM
Assistant Director

Professor Margaret McGill is the Assistant Director of the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Diabetes Centre.
She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health.
From 2003 to 2009, Associate Professor McGill was Senior Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).
She led the successful application for RPA Hospital's Diabetes Centre to be established as Australia's only International Diabetes Federation 'Centre of Excellence in Education'.
Her clinical interests are in type 1 diabetes, complications of diabetes, developing innovative models of care and medical and health professional education. For the past 10 years she has been part of RPA Hospital's Diabetes Centre providing diabetes services to Maari Ma Aboriginal Medical Service in the Far West of NSW. She has served on numerous diabetes professional organisation committees and is currently a member of the NADC advisory committee and Diabetes Australia's Health Professional Advisory Board.
In 2011, she was awarded an Order of Australia (AM) for her contribution to diabetes nationally and overseas.

Jencia WongProfessor Jencia Wong
Director of Research

Professor Wong is the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Diabetes Centre Director of Research. She is also a Senior Staff Specialist Endocrinologist at RPA Hospital, Clinical Professor at the University of Sydney. She is a member of the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney.

She is the medical lead for the RPA Young Adult and Atypical Diabetes interdisciplinary service and leads research programs in specialty areas including youth onset diabetes, gestational diabetes, and monogenic diabetes.  She chaired Australia's first Consensus Statement on the Management of Type 2 Diabetes in Young Adults, which appeared in 2022 under the auspices of the Australian Diabetes Society, the Australian Diabetes Educators Association, and the Australasian Paediatric Group. Professor Wong also served on writing committees for the first Australasian Paediatric Group Guidelines for the Screening and Management of Type 2 Diabetes in Children and Adolescents and the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Guidelines for Type 2 Diabetes in Youth. She remains committed to improving outcomes for those living with diabetes.

Stephen TwiggProfessor Stephen Twigg
Head of Department of Endocrinology

Professor Twigg is of the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Head of Department of Endocrinology and Endocrinology Research Laboratories.
He is also Kellion Professor of Endocrinology, and Sydney Medical School's Stan Clark Chair in Diabetes, at University of Sydney.
As a physician-scientist and educationalist, his program of research since 1995 has been dedicated to preventing, detecting, and managing end-organ complications in diabetes. He includes diabetic foot disease, diabetic cardiomyopathy, liver disease in diabetes and diabetic nephropathy, and acute complications such as hypoglycaemia in his research.
Professor Twigg's main translational interest is how diabetes causes tissue damage with loss of function, and ways this can be addressed to improve clinical outcomes.
He is the medical lead at the International Diabetes Federation (IDF)-Western Pacific Region recognised multidisciplinary Diabetes High Risk Foot Service in RPAH Diabetes Centre.
He is current medical NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation Chair in Endocrinology and was President of the Australian Diabetes Society from 2018 to 2020.
Professor Twigg is an Australian delegate to the International Diabetes Federation General Assembly. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, mainly in translational research in diabetes and its diabetic complications. He also chaired the National Health and Medical Research Council national clinical care guidelines in type 1 diabetes.

Glynis RossAssociate Professor Glynis Ross
Head of Diabetes in Pregnancy Service

Associate Professor Glynis Ross is a Visiting Endocrinologist at Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital, and has been in charge of RPA Hospital's Diabetes and Pregnancy Service since 1991.
Her major interests are diabetes in pregnancy, type 1 diabetes, insulin ump therapy and inpatient diabetes management.
For over 24 years, Associate Professor Ross has served on state, national and international diabetes working parties, particularly in the area of diabetes and pregnancy.
From 2008 to 2010, Associate Professor Ross was President of the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADIPS), on ADIPS Council from 1991 to 1998 and 2002 to 2012 (including two periods as Treasurer).
Since 2012, Associate Professor Ross has been on the Council of the Australian Diabetes Society (ADS), and is currently the ADS Secretary.
She is currently the co-chair of the state-based Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Diabetes in Pregnancy Working Party and a member of the ACI Endocrine Executive.
She is also the Diabetes in Pregnancy representative on the national Diabetes Expert Advisory Group, and is the Chair of the national Diabetes in Pregnancy Expert Reference Group.
Associate Professor Ross is an author on approximately 25 papers involving diabetes and pregnancy in peer-reviewed journals. She regularly reviews journal articles for publication, particularly in the field of diabetes in pregnancy. She is actively involved in a number of local, national and international clinical studies in the field of diabetes and pregnancy. She is a member of a current Cochrane review being done on foetal biometry for guiding the medical management of gestational diabetes mellitus.

Connie LuoMs Connie Luo
Senior Diabetes Nurse Practitioner

Connie Luo is a senior Diabetes Nurse Practitioner and clinical lead for the diabetes educators at the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Diabetes Centre. She has completed a Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) at the University of Sydney. She has presented her work at multiple National Scientific meetings. Her clinical interests are in diabetes patients with renal disease and type 1 diabetes patients.  She is an expert with the latest diabetes technologies (insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring).

Pamela Jean HoDr Pamela Jean Ho
Visiting Medical Officer

Dr Pamela Jean Ho is a Visiting Medical Officer in the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Department of Endocrinology. At RPA Hospital's Diabetes Centre, her clinical interests are management of diabetes patients with severe chronic kidney disease and those who have undergone kidney transplant in RPA Hospital's Diabetes Renal Clinic, and of any other patients with complex needs.

Eddy Tabet Dr Eddy Tabet
Staff Specialist Endocrinologist

Dr Eddy Tabet is a Staff Specialist Endocrinologist with appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital. He also works in private practice in the Bankstown and Burwood areas.  He has strong interests in Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, atypical diabetes and diabetes-related complications particularly retinopathy. He is actively involved in the High Risk Foot Service at RPA. Dr Tabet has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of Diabetes and Obesity. He has presented his work at several national and international endocrinology meetings. Other areas of interest and research include thyroid disease and pregnancy-related endocrine diseases.  Dr Tabet is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney and the Director of Physicians Training in the RPA Basic Physician Training Network. He has a strong passion for medical education and continues to make extensive contributions in this field.

Timothy MiddletonDr Timothy Middleton
Staff Specialist Endocrinologist

Dr Timothy Middleton holds an appointment as a part-time staff specialist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Diabetes Centre and works as a consultant endocrinologist with the Collaborative Centre for Cardiometabolic Health in Psychosis Service. He also holds accreditation as a VMO at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer position with the University of Sydney. Following admission to fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, he completed his Master of Philosophy examining cardiac effects of sulfonylurea-related hypoglycaemia and he went onto complete his PhD in the field of young adult-onset type 2 diabetes. He has presented at both national and international diabetes conferences and has published manuscripts in well-respected, peer reviewed journals. He now enjoys balancing clinical service, teaching and research in his current roles.

Angela LeeDr Angela Lee
Staff Specialist Endocrinologist

Dr Angela Lee is a Staff Specialist Endocrinologist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Diabetes Centre. She has completed a Master of Medicine (Clinical Epidemiology) and a PhD at the University of Sydney, with her research focused on type 1 diabetes and the effects of high-intensity interval training on improving metabolic health, supported by both NHMRC and JDRF Australia scholarships. She has been engaged in teaching and research activities as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney. Her clinical interests are in Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes, particularly with the use of new technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pumps.

Sarah ParryDr Sarah Parry
Staff Specialist Endocrinologist

Dr Sarah Parry is a Staff Specialist Endocrinologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and RPA Health One Green Square. She has completed a PhD from the University of Sydney, researching drivers of metabolic liver disease in diabetes. Her main clinical interests are in metabolic disorders, including diabetes, prediabetes and obesity. She is also passionate about medical education and is a Sydney Horizon Educator in the Metabolic Health Program at the University of Sydney and is involved in teaching programs with the Australian Diabetes Society.

Maria ConstantinoDr Maria Constantino
Data Manager

Dr Maria Constantino is the Data Manager at the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Diabetes Centre.
She is a credentialled diabetes educator, and completed her PhD at University of Sydney Her area of study was The Utility of the Electronic Health Records: A Study of Diabetes and Its Complications.
Since 1983, Dr Constantino has specialised in information technology relating to diabetes, data sets and database management. Her primary focus is on how health information technologies can help in the study of diabetes and associated complications and mortality.
Dr Constantino is a leader in RPA Hospital's Diabetes Centre's move towards telehealth as a way for clinicians to deliver care. She was a former chair and member of the Sydney Local Health District's Telehealth Clinical Policy and Integrated Services Steering Committee.
She is particularly interested in patient education for Portuguese-speaking members of our community, and peer education on the use of blood glucose monitoring devices.
