Referrals to the liver transplant team

You need a referral letter, addressed to one of our liver transplant consultants, to be assessed for a transplant with the RPA Hospital Transplant Services team. You will require a referral from your specialist and from your GP.

You or your GP can send us the GP referral by fax to 02 9515 8242 or email to:
SLHD-RPAGastroLiver@health.nsw.gov.au.

Once we receive a referral letter, we'll contact you to schedule an appointment to discuss assessment for liver transplantation.

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Medicare Card
  • GP referral

Overseas Patient Enquiries

Currently, the Australian National Liver Transplant Unit's policy is only to transplant patients who are Australian citizens or permanent residents. This is due to the increasing size of our waiting list. This policy is reviewed half-yearly; however, at this stage, we do not anticipate any change in the future.
