Gastroenterology Consultations
The Gastroenterology & Liver Centre: a new model of care for ambulatory consultations.
The past Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic was unable to provide a timely service, which has been a very common difficulty in all Gastroenterology clinics in public hospitals.
To address this, we have replaced the general outpatient service with a new model of service, that has increased patient access to a consultation with a gastroenterologist.
The Centre, which is co-located at the Hospital, provides a high quality, personalised, bulk billed consultant led service for ambulatory patients.
The patient (or their doctor or carer) must make an appointment by calling the number below and an appointment date will be given. Patients need a current named referral to one of the doctors listed below. Posted, faxed or e-referrals without contact by the patient cannot be accommodated. There will be no accepted referrals unallocated an appointment at the time of contact. Doctors may ring or fax to 9767 7907 if there is a need for an urgent assessment. Priority must be given to patients within the SLHD Area, existing patients of the hospital and tertiary referrals from outside the Area. Of necessity, there will be limited access for new patients referred from outside the Area, in order to keep waiting times reasonable.
After consultation, patients who require endoscopies will have the choice of having these at Concord Hospital or at private facilities if they so choose.
The usual referral pathways for the Liver Clinic and the IBD Service are unchanged.
